The game is trying to make a flag with greater than 9 steps. Since the game won't let you have more than 9 steps, it freaks out and gives you a negative number corresponding to the positive number. (which is why if you continue far enough, the step counter will be -65525, *blank*, 9, 8, and so on.) Next, the game tries to make an image on the flag for the number. Since it can't find a dot image, it searches in the game image database and finds another image, which it places on the flag. I still have no idea why the game is trying to make a higher than 9 step flag. (For confirmation help, the "wormhole" flag gives 24 steps.)
I want to see that explanation, but I also want to know if it's possible to manipulate specific flags to spawn. I have photo documentation of at least two dozen glitch flags, but don't know if I can get them "back".
Actually, I think the mechanism at the beginning is causing flags to move without adding to the undo stack. Then when undoing the values for other objects become flags, and you get a bunch of garbage data.
Your synopsis seems to be more or less correct, from what I can gather. Here's a relevant comment in the game's code (encoded in rot13): "[n fgrc pbhagre inyhr gung vf] terngre guna 10 zrnaf vg ercerfragf (inyhr-0kssss-1) fgrcf (juvpu raqf hc orvat artngvir.)"
(The game's codebase is so large that I keep having to re-remember how certain parts work, which is why comments like these come in handy.)
As for the images on the flags (I'm simplifying here but it's basically correct): the game stores image indices in a giant list, and the flag "pip" images are stored together. E.G. there's an image for one dot, followed by an image of two dots, and so on. Normal flags don't have values greater than 9, but when glitch flags do, they try to access e.g. the 20th dot image, which ends up being a different image entirely since the indices are stored next to each other.

Fun fact: the game has a "static analyzer" that marks objects which are guaranteed to not move or change, which lets the game make undo states use less memory. I do wonder if that was a good decision, though, since it often caused bugs (like this one) and doesn't save a whole lot of memory overall.
I do think this is funny, and I found many similar bugs over the course of development. Part of me wants to keep this behavior when "enable old bugs" is turned on, but:
This causes some potentially dangerous behavior with reading/writing out of bounds (My development builds of the game check for Out Of Bounds reading on many arrays, and this bug causes OOB reads, which are concerning.)
I could change the code so this bug behaves in a safe way, but I'm thinking that might be a lot of work.
I could add in those "weird flags" in a safer way in the future. Possibly.
I'll upload a patch that fixes this (and improves/fixes some other things as well) some time in the near future.
Finally at 100 % here, and I just want to extend my warmest compliments and gratitude to the developer for an incredible game. This game has been so much fun - incredibly difficult at times, but you always twist your mind and learn something new about how to exploit the tiny details of the game mechanics. In the beginning, it felt like the game almost started with the difficulty level of the most difficult stars in part 1, but slowly and steadily you get used to how hard it is and just start loving the fact that there is no portion of the game you just fly through at the beginning - at least not for me.
Just a series of beautiful puzzles, and really impressive how so many puzzles are placed within each other as well - I loved how there was almost an infinite amount of fun things to do with the cats, cryptids and stars. I'm sorry that this was the conclusion to the saga, I would have been interested to pitch in to keep the series going!

Any help for the stars in 14,17; 11,12; 14,19; 11,18; 7,21? (I need 2 more stars for the door.)
While I've already unlocked the cryptid door there's obviously more out there; I assume I'll need to double tp in these rooms and have no clue how: 7,16; 6,18 (...well, I have some ideas, but the execution looks like it'll be hell); 18,17 (apparently you can't do this the obvious way to bring two in from below because of the differing amounts of ice); 13,8
For 14,19 rocks collide with flags and stars, so push the star out.
For 11,18 push a dead cat down.
For 7,21 use the rocket/finale mechanic to your advantage. and push a dead cat up.
For 7,16 cryptid push a flag with a rock to revive the second cat.
For 6,18 I assume you already have the room above? If you do, make a loop at the bottom right by pushing the rock down. You'll also need a dead cat on a wormhole.
For 13,8 the game always takes the higher number of steps, so you can save on a 0-flag without dying.
11,12 is still hard. The reason I had no ideas is because I forgot about how execution order works, so I wasn't even sure how to get to the other side. Once I got that part it just got to the fact that this puzzle is kind of difficult.
11,18 That was the obvious part. I ended up messing around until I somehow managed to have two alive cats in different columns, after which it was easy.
7,21 I did try going to the upward transition above the 0 flag to see if it'd help, but didn't see any way it'd be possible to actually get there.
6,18 I always forget about dead cats. That makes this pretty easy.
13,8 The specific part I'm struggling on is that part with the three flags and three rocks that makes a wall that you can't pass. The obvious solution would be to run forwards through the room first, but then there's an obstacle after that point that you can't pass without a zero flag, and at that point you haven't revived the second cat yet.
(also the 18,17 in the original post was a typo, meant 8)
For 8,17 you do come in the way you think is obvious. You are right that you need the same amount of ice between the cats and the exits. That level contains everything you need to make that happen (except for one spare cat you'll have to bring with you - I don't think you have enough range of motion otherwise, at least I never found a way without it).
For 13,8, you're actually on the right track when you realized that you can't get past the wall. If you push the only rock you can push, it blocks the hallway. But you do have to get on the other side of the rock. So if you can't pass the rock, the rock has to pass you. You're going to spend a lot of time carefully moving the revived cat around. MetaMetaPuzzle gave you the key here, although to restate - a 0-flag doesn't have to kill you.
In 7,21, to restate again, a 0-flag doesn't have to kill you. As discussed somewhere below, there is no way to send two cats to the left side and then revive them, so you'll have to use "something else" to push a dead cat.
You can also get to 11,12 by double-teleporting. It won't help with the star, but it gets a cryptid.
Could you use other mechanics? The bigger map issue could maybe be fixed by using blue zero flags. The portals could be replaced with pink flags and cat cloning
After some struggling I managed to get out with two starting with one, and that's enough to get the star. You need to start with two to get out with three, which lets you exit the above room from the top.
No. Why did you have to tell us that? Now I'm going to have to try to figure out how you did that, because I couldn't get out with more than one until I brought two in. There goes my evening :P
Edit - nuclear facepalm... face-to-face. I had to use that to solve another level. How did I not think of that until now?? It's even easier to set up on this level than it was on the level that needed it for the "normal" solution.
Ah, right, that star is on the spikes not on the exit space, I forgot.
Okay, so you've managed to get a spare cat, and the portal in the room giving you one spare cat would suggest you need one spare... but you're right you need one more. The entrance to the room is as wide as it is for a reason. There's a different solution to 11,17 when you start with an extra cat that will get you there.
If you need a hint, you won't take both original cats out, you need to sacrifice one of them fairly early to relocate a troublesome part of the level. Then you'll be able to take the other and both revived cats.
Ah, okay. Three is enough. So I'm not sure exactly where you're stuck since there are a lot of places here where it looks like you'll be close, and then lose the plot (as I found out the hard way), but a few suggestions:
1) First thing you need to push across is the flag, This starts with two of the starting cats plus the revived cat from the medusa section, and using the "cats don't turn unless they move" mechanic.
2) Never push a cat across the conveyor, only flags and rocks.
3) I found it easiest (maybe necessary) to stash the level-ending cat in the south tunnel to set things up so that I could recharge moves by moving up onto a flag, since otherwise it was too easy to either walk onto the spikes or accidentally walk onto the conveyor.
After sporadically working through this, finally at 100%-- I really want to celebrate this achievement of a game, so deep and charming, with layers upon layers upon layers

Since I had managed to bring two cats to the end of that level (am not gonna spoil it) I had forgotten to break-teleport from that one as well. THANK YOU!
When you "break teleport", do you ALWAYS get 5 rooms up? That's how I managed to understand I had overlooked one room... from only two other examples. Should I have known that beforehand? That would have been SO helpful!
I made another custom level, and this time it's more vanilla-style and has a central mechanic! I'm proud of this collection of neat puzzles, and I hope they aren't too difficult.
After all this hard work ( thank you Ethan, what an adventure!), I can't seem to figure out how to unblock this wormholes in 10,11 ! which doesn't seem to be a big deal here ... it's not very funny.
Found the one from 12,16 (can't believe I missed that one). ONE LAST CRYPTID WHERE ARE YOU? I'm guessing it's one I *think* I did but maybe didn't... Why are you so cruel epicpikguy? You have ruined my work week with this fantastic game!
For 11,16 there's a reason the entrance to the level is as wide as it is ;) Getting that one will (if I remember) start a long and complicated path that will eventually get you 13,20.
The star in 7,21 takes advantage of a game mechanic you learn toward the end of the game and uses a very unlikely-looking exit/entrance.
10,11... I don't remember there being a star there, but I finished the game a while back, so my map isn't really helpful for spotting star locations - where are you stuck on that one?
If you start 11,16 with two cats, there's a different solution (that involves sacrificing one cat to reposition a medusa early on) that will let you take your remaining original cat and both revived cats through the top exit.
And while 9,17 will get you the spare cat you need, it's only a shortcut to do so after it's opened. Without that shortcut (and in order to open the shortcut if I remember), the extra cat is part of a loooong path starting at 9,14.
If you've opened any of the other shortcut portals into the path then you can skip parts using portals at 7,16, 6,17, or 9,19. Otherwise you have to take the long way around (and you'll open those portals as you go).
Oooh, and actually for 10,11, I might know why you're stuck now. How did you get there? We might have gotten there from different paths, which is why I had enough movement. You need to teleport into the level - not using the map teleport - in order to start on the 9-step flag in the upper corner to reach the door. You'll find what you need to finish the room up there.
Alright. 4,21. How do I get this to actually work? Both interested in the cryptid as well as just reaching the rightmost teleporter. I just can't understand how I can get the flag to be further to the right - neither can I understand how I can potentially push a dead cat onto the teleporter to the right (if that is the solution to do it)
I am almost at 100% without using the bug. The only 2 things I can't figure out are the cryptid at 4,16 (from room 4,21) and the star in 11,12 (I know it starts at 9,12 and I know how to get there). Once I figure them out I will make a full walkthrough. Can I have some hints?
I just got the 4,16 cryptid and was puzzled for a long time :)
Hint: You need to get a living steve into a position, where you can push a dead Steve to the teleport on the left, refresh the counter and then move to the bottom teleport.
To get to the bottom part of 11,12, you need three Steves and the Rock on the left of 10,12. I think it was 2 above and 1 below, but could be the other way around. Its tricky to find the right way to arrange in 9,12.
Hint (possibly small spoiler): If you leave a room in two different ways at the same time, you will be teleported 5 rooms above. Depending on how far you are in the game, your only have experienced this in one way (leave room 10,12 both to the left and to the right simultaneously) - but there are also other ways.
The level editor is not working. When I put barriers on the edge of a room (to stop the player from going there without needing a wall), and then put walls on the other side, the editor removes the barriers and I can't put them back again. Please help.
You can restart to the beginning of the room via the pause menu, and you can reset from the current flag by running out of moves and moving again (the latter is something that’s important to remember!)

8,11: double teleport from 8,16. Spawn an extra kitten using the flag at the entrance.
6,10: you get there through a wormhole in 8,15, which you access from 8,20. Create an extra kitten there and use it to reach the two lower wormholes. You'll need at least three.
Its like, i join the game, clicked "edit an existing level" while i dont have a existing level, then i make and test a level, copy level to clipboard, then use comment to upload the level, and save and quit
then its only have new game button, which mean my progress is reseted
im trying to do the thing again, but its not work for me
I think I might have an idea of what went wrong. The level editor actually reads and writes to your saved progress (for spoiler-y reasons,) so it’s likely that something went wrong during that process.
Fortunately, this is the only report I’ve gotten in the three weeks since the game’s release, so hopefully this is a really rare bug.
I’ll try to implement some sort of save backup system soon, but in the meantime: what did your save game look like? I can try to recreate your progress, then give you a save file which you can load into the game via the JavaScript console.
Okay, you can follow these steps to get your progress back:
open up the Javascript console
make sure you have the game's iframe selected (it won't work if you run the command on the main page, it has to specifically execute in the iframe's page)
Then try refreshing the page. Hopefully, this should work. (But I'm not familiar with the browser in question, so there's a chance it might not, and there's also a chance I made a mistake here.)

Finally at 100 % here, and I just want to extend my warmest compliments and gratitude to the developer for an incredible game. This game has been so much fun - incredibly difficult at times, but you always twist your mind and learn something new about how to exploit the tiny details of the game mechanics. In the beginning, it felt like the game almost started with the difficulty level of the most difficult stars in part 1, but slowly and steadily you get used to how hard it is and just start loving the fact that there is no portion of the game you just fly through at the beginning - at least not for me.
Just a series of beautiful puzzles, and really impressive how so many puzzles are placed within each other as well - I loved how there was almost an infinite amount of fun things to do with the cats, cryptids and stars. I'm sorry that this was the conclusion to the saga, I would have been interested to pitch in to keep the series going!

While I've already unlocked the cryptid door there's obviously more out there; I assume I'll need to double tp in these rooms and have no clue how: 7,16; 6,18 (...well, I have some ideas, but the execution looks like it'll be hell); 18,17 (apparently you can't do this the obvious way to bring two in from below because of the differing amounts of ice); 13,8

For 14,17 push a dead cat down from above.

For 14,19 rocks collide with flags and stars, so push the star out.
For 11,18 push a dead cat down.
For 7,21 use the rocket/finale mechanic to your advantage. and push a dead cat up.
For 7,16 cryptid push a flag with a rock to revive the second cat.
For 6,18 I assume you already have the room above? If you do, make a loop at the bottom right by pushing the rock down. You'll also need a dead cat on a wormhole.
For 13,8 the game always takes the higher number of steps, so you can save on a 0-flag without dying.

11,12 is still hard. The reason I had no ideas is because I forgot about how execution order works, so I wasn't even sure how to get to the other side. Once I got that part it just got to the fact that this puzzle is kind of difficult.
11,18 That was the obvious part. I ended up messing around until I somehow managed to have two alive cats in different columns, after which it was easy.
7,21 I did try going to the upward transition above the 0 flag to see if it'd help, but didn't see any way it'd be possible to actually get there.
6,18 I always forget about dead cats. That makes this pretty easy.
13,8 The specific part I'm struggling on is that part with the three flags and three rocks that makes a wall that you can't pass. The obvious solution would be to run forwards through the room first, but then there's an obstacle after that point that you can't pass without a zero flag, and at that point you haven't revived the second cat yet.
(also the 18,17 in the original post was a typo, meant 8)
For 8,17 you do come in the way you think is obvious. You are right that you need the same amount of ice between the cats and the exits. That level contains everything you need to make that happen (except for one spare cat you'll have to bring with you - I don't think you have enough range of motion otherwise, at least I never found a way without it).
For 13,8, you're actually on the right track when you realized that you can't get past the wall. If you push the only rock you can push, it blocks the hallway. But you do have to get on the other side of the rock. So if you can't pass the rock, the rock has to pass you. You're going to spend a lot of time carefully moving the revived cat around. MetaMetaPuzzle gave you the key here, although to restate - a 0-flag doesn't have to kill you.
In 7,21, to restate again, a 0-flag doesn't have to kill you. As discussed somewhere below, there is no way to send two cats to the left side and then revive them, so you'll have to use "something else" to push a dead cat.
You can also get to 11,12 by double-teleporting. It won't help with the star, but it gets a cryptid.

After some struggling I managed to get out with two starting with one, and that's enough to get the star.You need to start with two to get out with three, which lets you exit the above room from the top.No. Why did you have to tell us that? Okay, so you've managed to get a spare cat, and the portal in the room giving you one spare cat would suggest you need one spare... but you're right you need one more. The entrance to the room is as wide as it is for a reason. There's a different solution to 11,17 when you start with an extra cat that will get you there.
If you need a hint, you won't take both original cats out, you need to sacrifice one of them fairly early to relocate a troublesome part of the level. Then you'll be able to take the other and both revived cats.
I come from 11,17 with 3 cats, but it seems that's not enough...
Ah, okay. Three is enough. So I'm not sure exactly where you're stuck since there are a lot of places here where it looks like you'll be close, and then lose the plot (as I found out the hard way), but a few suggestions:
1) First thing you need to push across is the flag, This starts with two of the starting cats plus the revived cat from the medusa section, and using the "cats don't turn unless they move" mechanic.
2) Never push a cat across the conveyor, only flags and rocks.

An interesting puzzle, you just have to keep careful track of your parity.
After sporadically working through this, finally at 100%-- I really want to celebrate this achievement of a game, so deep and charming, with layers upon layers upon layers

When you "break teleport", do you ALWAYS get 5 rooms up?

Could anybody please help me with the stars in 11,16 13,20 7,21 and 10,11 ?
For 11,16 there's a reason the entrance to the level is as wide as it is ;) Getting that one will (if I remember) start a long and complicated path that will eventually get you 13,20.
The star in 7,21 takes advantage of a game mechanic you learn toward the end of the game and uses a very unlikely-looking exit/entrance.
10,11... I don't remember there being a star there, but I finished the game a while back, so my map isn't really helpful for spotting star locations - where are you stuck on that one?
For 11,16 I've been trying to bring 2 or 3 cats to the large entrance, but I haven't found the way (I assume they must comme from 9,17, but how ?)
For 10,11 I'm one step too short to get the star or to go to 10,10. I think I have to open the wormhole to succeed, but I don't know how (again).
If you start 11,16 with two cats, there's a different solution (that involves sacrificing one cat to reposition a medusa early on) that will let you take your remaining original cat and both revived cats through the top exit.
And while 9,17 will get you the spare cat you need, it's only a shortcut to do so after it's opened. Without that shortcut (and in order to open the shortcut if I remember), the extra cat is part of a loooong path starting at 9,14.
If you've opened any of the other shortcut portals into the path then you can skip parts using portals at 7,16, 6,17, or 9,19. Otherwise you have to take the long way around (and you'll open those portals as you go).
Oooh, and actually for 10,11, I might know why you're stuck now. How did you get there? We might have gotten there from different paths, which is why I had enough movement. You need to teleport into the level - not using the map teleport - in order to start on the 9-step flag in the upper corner to reach the door. You'll find what you need to finish the room up there.
So... if I understand correctly, it's possible to go across 10,20 (from 9,20 to 10,19) with two cats ?!

How do I get this to actually work? Both interested in the cryptid as well as just reaching the rightmost teleporter. I just can't understand how I can get the flag to be further to the right - neither can I understand how I can potentially push a dead cat onto the teleporter to the right (if that is the solution to do it)
To reach the rightmost teleporter, push a dead cat with the rock.
For the cryptid, you won't need to reach the rightmost teleporter :-)

I am almost at 100% without using the bug. The only 2 things I can't figure out are the cryptid at 4,16 (from room 4,21) and the star in 11,12 (I know it starts at 9,12 and I know how to get there). Once I figure them out I will make a full walkthrough. Can I have some hints?
I just got the 4,16 cryptid and was puzzled for a long time :)
Hint: You need to get a living steve into a position, where you can push a dead Steve to the teleport on the left, refresh the counter and then move to the bottom teleport.
To get to the bottom part of 11,12, you need three Steves and the Rock on the left of 10,12. I think it was 2 above and 1 below, but could be the other way around. Its tricky to find the right way to arrange in 9,12.
I am missing the room 9,13... any ideas?

Hint (possibly small spoiler): If you leave a room in two different ways at the same time, you will be teleported 5 rooms above. Depending on how far you are in the game, your only have experienced this in one way (leave room 10,12 both to the left and to the right simultaneously) - but there are also other ways.

The level editor is not working. When I put barriers on the edge of a room (to stop the player from going there without needing a wall), and then put walls on the other side, the editor removes the barriers and I can't put them back again. Please help.

how do you restart
You can restart to the beginning of the room via the pause menu, and you can reset from the current flag by running out of moves and moving again (the latter is something that’s important to remember!)

You have three rooms to find:
8,11: double teleport from 8,16. Spawn an extra kitten using the flag at the entrance.
6,10: you get there through a wormhole in 8,15, which you access from 8,20. Create an extra kitten there and use it to reach the two lower wormholes. You'll need at least three.

OH NO, why my progress get reseted!!! help
Can you provide more details on what happened? What were the last few things you did before your progress got reset?
Its like, i join the game, clicked "edit an existing level" while i dont have a existing level, then i make and test a level, copy level to clipboard, then use comment to upload the level, and save and quit
then its only have new game button, which mean my progress is reseted
im trying to do the thing again, but its not work for me
I think I might have an idea of what went wrong. The level editor actually reads and writes to your saved progress (for spoiler-y reasons,) so it’s likely that something went wrong during that process.
Fortunately, this is the only report I’ve gotten in the three weeks since the game’s release, so hopefully this is a really rare bug.
I’ll try to implement some sort of save backup system soon, but in the meantime: what did your save game look like? I can try to recreate your progress, then give you a save file which you can load into the game via the JavaScript console.
