Would be a lot more fun if there wasn't a high chance for it to be impossible to win.

(1 edit)

I played 15 games in a row and didn’t lose one. There’s a certain strategy that wins almost all the time.

Once you know this strategy, try playing no button runs where you escape without hitting the button for extra challenge.

The chance of it being impossible to win is 0. The developer has stated that they have won on a map that is strictly harder than all possible maps.

Here is an examples of what I mean.

I can't move through the wall, meaning I can't reach the exit, meaning I can't beat the game.

Another example.

Here, not only is the exit blocked, but so is the room with the button.

In your first game example, the strategy would have been to go right, not left, towards the exit.

… forgive me if I am wrong, but I think you must not have figured out the main rule of the game.

There is a lot less randomness in the game than you think. Here’s a hint.

This part is always consistent between games.

So I have escaped as a cat, escaped as a human, read various letters, and found an unusual note. Anything else I’m missing?

(+1)

have you found the self-incriminating evidence and the excavators note?

(1 edit)

Yep! The bad guy left three notes revealing their malicious deed and the excavator had intruded on another’s space.

(+2)

I think you’ve found just about everything.

Appreciated! Thanks for the game!

Although the phrasing “just about” is suspicious…

I have been playing blue prince lately, so this is going to be hilarious to me.

(+1)

Cute minimization of blue prince esque mechanics. I enjoyed figuring out how things worked! :)

I liked the fact that if you go into the last room as a cat, you can't leave :D

(+1)

Light blue cats are always up to no good :3 At least I am a valid choice

(+2)

Neat minimalist puzzle! It was really fun to figure out.

(+1)

Enjoyed this a lot! Took three rounds to understand the mechanic but after that I realized what was going on and had a fun time figuring out how to manipulate the rooms to make it out!

(+8)

Missed opportunity to call it "Blue Paw Prince"?

Great idea btw, loved the references!

MEW PRINCE

(2 edits) (+1)

Great little puzzle game, took me a few tried to understand the room mechanism and I wonder if it is possible to explore all secret passage while also escape (as a human)

(+3)

Blue Prince, but i can ONLY draft PASSAGEWAY and LAVATORY!!!

cool game, got both endings. not very replayable, but nice nonetheless!

can't believe cat billionaire is evil, what a cruel and unexpected twist!

(+8)

You can't read this note because you're currently a cat.

As a test, I went straight up 100 times. 100 out of 100 times the third room was a dead end. I thought the rooms are supposed to be RNG based. That's what you sold us on by saying it was a Blue Prince-like.

(+7)

Apparently, I didn’t tutorialize this fact well enough: the room you get is based on a property of the player (watch the player sprite closely,) which is why your test gets the same results.

Also: there are some room elements that are random. In fact, the game itself tells you what one of those random elements is.

(+3)

Further thoughts: I think "Blue Prince-like" implying RNG is a valid expectation, which makes me glad I added in RNG elements. Those got added in later than you'd think! I could have made a version with no randomness at all, which to me would have still been a "Blue Prince-like" since it still has room building.

(1 edit) (+3)

Further further thoughts: the note you get in the starting room sort of implies that the rooms themselves are RNG based. I should have probably worded it better.

Also, what's up with itch's comment system breaking up the lines in weird ways? (Is that just on my end???)

(+1)

No, the weird line breaking is a thing.

(+1)

I feel like the lack of RNG rooms, but rather leaving it up to the player or with the notes to be understood, make the game 100 times more enjoyable than blue prince itself.

Obviously different people enjoy different things, but it was such a great "ah-ha!" moment when I even just NOTICED (not even fully figured out) the rooms mechanic.

It's much more enjoyable than "yeah on this side you have a 10% increased chance of 30% more tiles with 5% more holes, but only if you found the 25% chance of spawn map with a 3% modifier and you also already did an arabian backflip in the living room (which has a 30% chance of appearing but only if you already went through a corridor which has a 60% chance of appearing on the furthermost backside during a new moon)[numbers not included in the game, it's up to you to guess the numbers; half of the times the numbers are half digit wrong]."

Now go find your princess

(+1)

Meow :3

(+2)

Okay this was an awesome puzzle, also I got the best ending

(+2)

valid choice!

(+1)

There is a pattern to how the rooms are revealed!

The RNG only affects vent orientation, are you sure there's a vent layout that's definitely impossible?

Edit: Oh yeah, and the button is random too, but at least you can see where it is once you're close enough.

No, I definitely have had seeds where the ending hallway couldn't be entered, and even a few where some rooms were fully walled off.

also a few annoying vents where I got stuck

(1 edit) (+1)

there is no rng to determine which hallways are open in newly entered rooms

Got it

(+1)

I beat the game with a layout that was strictly harder than all possible layouts in the game, so I think there shouldn't be any that are impossible. Though I could have made a mistake or two.

(+1)

Nothing at all like Blue Prince, insofar as it's possible to finish this game.  (Which I did!  I liked it.)
